It’s another doctor feel good work. How many books has he written on essentially the same subject?If you only read ONE of his books it is as good as another. I have purchased several and this is my last unless he writes a mystery novel.I suspect it will be good. He is an excellent writer but has worn this material down to the bottom.How many times can you say the same thing with a slight twist?I guess the answer is, “As long as someone will spend more money on it.â€I can’t fault anyone for being able to make a buck I wish I had done it first.The book is well written. On topic (again) and worthy of being the only book from this author on your library shelf. Then go read what others have to contribute to your life.I can’t give it a single star and I can’t give it a five star either. So I settled on. three stars as a compromise of sorts. Wish I could do better but can’t.

My apologies also to the helpful people in other countries who try to provide information to Mr. Maxwell in HIS language in THEIR country because HE does not speak the language of the host country. Perhaps your translations are not perfect but the arrogance and insensitivity of making fun of your translations, which are an effort to help, is inexcusable. In addition to the arrogance and the insensitivity of the author, I found the book to be cluttered and disorganized. Where are the “five practices?†They are not numbered. When I did hunt them down, all I found were platitudes. “Connectors create an experience everyone enjoys.†This is not a practice. A practice involves doing something. This is simply an idea, and not an original one. I can not recommend this book. The lack of respect and outright rudeness toward other cultures is unacceptable, and the presentation of the material is a mess.

I thought this book would not be what I wanted but I'm thankful I decided to give it a try. Some of the principles I knew I had, but I realize most I don't. I believe that life is all about relationship. I know I can't connect with every but I want to enjoy the ones I do have. This book has showed me a ton of areas I need to do better in. I know my relationship will benefit from this book.
I've read several of John C. Maxwell's books on leadership and some of them have been easier to read than others for me. This is a well written book with some great practical information that anyone can learn from. Who doesn't need to learn to communicate better? This book gives some great ways to connect with an audience as a speaker, with an individual or with small groups. We all communicate but connecting is something we all need to learn to do well so that our communication is more effective. This book is not filled with tricks but some well tested ways to genuinely connect with others.
I regained a lot of practical information from this book. In addition, I actually enjoyed reading it!I have come across some who say the information is not "deep." However, I want to challenge everyone to consider what they want most; to be "deep" or to be effective. We cannot escape interacting with people. This book provides the tools and common sense approaches for doing that.I would recommend this book to everyone but especially to those who are new to the sales business. It is a "must have."
While he offers some advice, he routinely breaks it. For example he suggests focusing on the other person to connect. But instead of focusing on creating value which he eschews for valuing your audience, he does neither.Most of the book sofar is the most egoistic crap ive ever read. He is supposed to be talking about us, the audience, and the problems we have. But instead of offering advice he quotes irrellevant statistic and then rambles senily.People who buy a book dont need to be sold on improving a skill. They need practical advice.Practical advice is the opposite of incoherent and incoate rambling.There is nothing wrong with a short but useful book. But you need to have value proportionate to the amount of other's time you waste. More basicly you need to provide some valueEvery sentence with the word I should be cut
Great Book, lots of good insight to help guide you through the difficult task of daily communication in all settings. The principals can be applied at home or work regardless of the type of job one does. The book is not only filled with great insight and wisdom from John Maxwell, but there are great personal anecdotes that bring the points to life. I have read this book several times and refer to it often as a guide during my life's journey
I really enjoyed starting this book - I'm not done yet as it is giving me much use for thought. I know someone mentioned the name dropping. This may annoy some, but it is done more in the spirit of acknowledging people who have helped, rather than to boast that he knows them personally! A lot of people helped him by giving input into the book, so for me the experience is enriched by the fact that an online community have participated.It does give a lot of practical hints and tips, but more importantly it makes you think about motives, thoughts, attitudes and where you need to adjust to improve things for yourself and other people. I wish every company and school had copies!
This book by john maxwell,is great for anyone looking to learn the skills and put into practice what is to be more successful in the way they relate and communicate to others.it looks at three main areas ,on a one to one basis,in a group ,and to an audiance.as with all of john maxwells books,easy to understand and read,but the principles of it need to be applied and put into practicethe benefits are huge for those in buisness in family relations or for anyone who needs speak and communicte to maybe a wider audiance.
I absolutely love this Book and CD, I've read the book and consider it a masterpiece in communication and publik speaking. Having it on tape gives you the opportunity to listen to it over and over again, i.e. in the car ( wich is what i normally do.The content is simple but very effective and covers basically all the subject and the tips you need to know if you want to better communicate on a one on one level or in a group or in front of an audience. It will help you become a better connector with people and you will benefit of it not only on a communication basis but also on a relationship basis.Emanuele.
